Consultant Connect has been successful in a short space of time at reducing both planned care referrals and urgent care admissions. Feedback from consultant and GP users has indicated that the Consultant Connect approach might also be successfully applied to Mental Health, and we are pleased to announce that we will be launching our first Mental Health pilot in the next 2 weeks.
The pilot will allow GPs immediate telephone access to local hospital Mental Health consultants for Advice & Guidance, often whilst the GP’s patient is with them or on their premises. The pilot aims to achieve the following:
- To avoid unnecessary referrals;
- To support GPs by providing them with immediate access to patient medication / treatment advice that would otherwise have to be obtained by referring the patient or by writing to consultants; and
- To ensure that, where a referral is necessary, it is correctly categorised as routine, urgent etc. so that waiting time targets are not missed.
As per our standard service, all calls will be recorded and call data, including call outcomes where captured, will be accessible in real time.
We are now looking for other areas that would be interested in running Mental Health pilots. A pilot in your area would be tailored to your local requirements and would record the outcomes that are important to your CCG / Trust. Pilots will last a minimum of 6 months and setup can be achieved within 2 – 4 weeks dependent on your requirements. Although there will be a fee for running a pilot, this will be set at a level to cover costs only.
If you are interested in speaking to us about how a pilot might work in your area, please either email us on firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 01865 261451.
