your waiting list with

Referral Backlog Triage

for the NHS

How it works:

We are now triaging waiting lists for Trusts with backlogs of referrals that have built up due to COVID-19.

The service uses our National Consultant Network (NCN). It’s the same network we launched 2 years ago which currently supports more than 50 NHS trusts with their capacity to deliver Advice & Guidance.

  • Available for 17 specialties using a network of experienced NHS consultants
  • Manages high volumes quickly: recent project at a Trust resulted in 3,450 referrals completed within 3 weeks
  • Results in many referrals being returned to the GP with Advice & Guidance
  • Identifies important upgrades into urgent / 2ww as well as downgrades to non-urgent
  • Captures and communicates all results via e-RS
  • It is charged on a per referral basis

“As a specialist in colorectal and general surgery, I think the referral triage project is an excellent idea.I was involved in the initial trial and I have seen referrals which clearly were inappropriate and caused delays in patient management.”

“The opportunities for the NHS are shorter waiting lists at the hospitals – what’s not to like about that! “

A number of referrals were identified to be re-triaged into another department in the hospital, saving an unnecessary first outpatient appointment.

“I think that sometimes GPs can be unsure of whether someone needs to be seen in a hospital clinic, but refer them on as a safety net. The cases like this, I have viewed, are especially suitable for A&G as re-assurance to the GP (and patient) can be given by an NHS consultant with a name attached.”

“The process Consultant Connect have set up is straightforward and uncomplicated. This means turnaround is fast. We can reply with Advice & Guidance or change a referral priority.”

“I can’t fault any aspect of the triage project as it was easy to access the referrals and make an input.”
