Luton CCG and Consultant Connect Finalists For 2 HSJ Awards

We are delighted to announce that our urgent care project with Luton CCG, Luton & Dunstable University Hospital and Cambridgeshire Community Services has been shortlisted for 2 HSJ Value Awards. The categories are:

  • The use of information technology to drive value in clinical services
  • Emergency, urgent and trauma care

The project has, to date, enabled more than 6,000 patients to avoid a trip to A&E. Instead, GPs speak with a nurse navigator who ensures that patients are sent directly to the right place for their treatment, meaning they get the right care immediately without having to wait in A&E.

Commenting on the award shortlisting, Caroline Capell, Assistant Director of Unplanned Care at NHS Luton CCG had this to say:

“We have often faced challenges with our urgent GP referrals into the acute trust so when we approached Consultant Connect we agreed to work in partnership to support this pathway. We have had a genuine partnership for over two years now including with the Luton & Dunstable Hospital and Cambridgeshire Community Services. The service and support offered by two Trusts have been excellent and, working with Consultant Connect, we have helped local clinicians make the most of the technology to provide a fast, effective pathway for patients”.

Jonathan Patrick, Director at Consultant Connect, commented:

“We are very pleased to have been shortlisted for two HSJ awards in partnership with Luton CCG. When we were approached by LCCG to support Urgent Care pathways from GP practices into A&E it gave us an opportunity to work together to develop Consultant Connect for Emergency care. The results have been outstanding working with the CCG, Cambridge Community Services and Luton & Dunstable University Hospital. Being shortlisted for these 2 awards reinforces how good this work has been”.
