NHS England’s Elective Care Transformation Programme exists to help manage rising patient demand as efficiently as possible. What is innovative about it is that it borrows an approach well known in Silicon Valley – it tests innovations very quickly over a period of 100 days to see if they work. If they do, great! If they don’t, they “fail fast”, meaning endless budget isn’t swallowed flogging the dead horse. It’s a clever way of separating out innovations that work in practice from those that don’t.
Innovations that work well are included in a handbook and in case studies. We’re very pleased that 2 of our projects are included in the Gastroenterology Handbook and Gastroenterology Case Studies.
The projects are in Somerset and Stockport. Somerset used Consultant Connect to allow GPs to speak immediately with local gastro consultants, enabling GPs to manage some patients in the community (primarily IBD patients) they would have otherwise referred. Stockport used Consultant Connect both as part of its plan to enable patients with Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and those with IBD to be managed by their GP.
You can read a couple of excerpts below – our sincere thanks to all those involved in Stockport and Somerset for working with us and congratulations on their successful projects.
