NHSX highlights Consultant Connect impact on elective recovery

Following on from the elective recovery tech fund being made available via NHSE’s Targeted Investment Fund (TIF), NHSX has published a new directory: ‘Digital products that assist in elective recovery’. Consultant Connect is featured.

Providing clinicians and healthcare professionals with productivity-enhancing innovations will be key to supporting elective care recovery.

We are therefore delighted that the Consultant Connect App features in the new directory, under ‘productivity benefits’. The reason why the App has been included is clear once you start seeing how clinicians across the UK are using it to communicate securely and quickly (the average call connection time is 30 seconds) with other clinicians and health professionals. It saves time, is a more efficient way of communicating, and offers clinicians multiple communication options (phone, photo messages, and messages).

Let’s take a look at some user feedback…

“It is incredibly useful to be able to use the Consultant Connect App to make a prompt call and obtain an answer quickly to a query. The answers I have obtained have reduced my referrals and helped me provide better patient care in complex cases.”
Dr Victoria Beasley, Speedwell Surgery, North Central London CCG. Click here to read the full case study.

“(The App) has taken away the stress of trying to contact secondary care on a busy on-call day, especially if you have the patient waiting in the room with you too.”
Dr Puja Choudhury, Weeping Cross Health Centre, Stafford and Surrounds CCG. Click here to read the full case study.

‘[When using the Consultant Connect App] You can access multiple departments within the hospital without having to look up contacts or numbers on your phone.”
Michael Muir, Paramedic and Clinical Stroke Lead, Scottish Ambulance Service, NHS Tayside Health Board. Click here to read the full case study.

“I’ve always got my phone with me, and using the cloud server via an email link [for PhotoSAF] also feels better from a governance perspective.”
Pete Roberts, Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, CMK Medical Centre, Milton Keynes CCG. Click here to read the full case study.

“We all know how difficult it can be to find the right numbers or the right point of contact. With the Consultant Connect service everything is available via one number, or by using the Messaging service through the Consultant Connect App.”
Dr Nakul Gupta, Paediatric Consultant at Grange University Hospital, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (UHB), Wales. Click here to read the full case study.

“I really enjoy the fact I no longer need to have my little phone book next to me at all times, which was how I had to find senior clinicians’ phone numbers before. It’s also extremely useful for our locums and our new GPs who won’t have the networking going back many years, like some of us older GPs have. On the app, we have the option of placing a telephone call or we can send IG secure and GDPR compliant photos and messages. This way of getting prompt senior advice is extremely positive for the patient and for me as I get instant clinical decision support.”
Dr Nicky Davies, GP at Beech House Surgery and Assistant Medical Director for Central Betsi Cadwaladar University Health Board (UHB), Wales. Click here to read the full case study.

About the Consultant Connect App

The Consultant Connect App is free to clinicians within participating NHS areas and acts as a secure pre-programmed phone directory, with all calls recorded for medico-legal purposes. The PhotoSAF feature on the App, enables clinicians to take safe clinical photos. Images are stored in an IG secure cloud and never to the clinician’s phone, they are also sent to the clinician’s NHS email address along with a PDF summary. In areas where Messages is enabled, clinicians can also use the App to send instant messages and photos directly to other clinician colleagues for patient-related advice.
