Unlike Consultant Connect, which aims to avoid unnecessary Planned Care referrals, Urgent Connect is focused on helping patients avoid the Emergency Department. Urgent Connect uses a specially adapted version of the Consultant Connect platform.
There are a number of ways that Urgent Connect can be applied to your area’s Urgent Care provision:
- Giving clinicians (for example, GPs and paramedics) access to immediate advice from local hospital general emergency consultants;
- Giving clinicians access to immediate advice from local specialty consultants in high demand over the winter, such as urgent Respiratory and Gastroenterology consultants
- Giving clinicians immediate signposting advice, allowing them to direct their patients towards healthcare facilities other than A&E (such as assessment centres or ambulatory care)
As with Consultant Connect, all call activity and outcomes are tracked and a recording of the call is stored for the records of the Trust and the GP.
Urgent Connect can be tailored to an area’s specific needs using a combination of some or all of the above approaches. Urgent Connect takes 2 weeks to roll out in an area, so there is an opportunity to get it working in your area in time for this winter.
