Consultant Connect 2021 – at a glance

Published: 15th December 2021
As we are getting close to the end of 2021, we have reflected on some of our highlights over the past year. These include expanding the service to cover over 33 million patients across the UK, supporting the NHS in their response to COVID-19, and launching Email Advice & Guidance, and Telemedicine Devices.

Some of Consultant Connect’s highlights from 2021…

What our benchmarking data can tell you

We published our six-year “anniversary” report with all the data since day one. As well as the fact that we are now covering over 33 million patients across the UK, our top highlights include:

  • 66% of telephone advice calls to elective specialties result in the patient avoiding a trip to hospital
  • 77% of telephone advice calls to Haematology result in the patient avoiding a trip to hospital
  • 59% of telephone advice calls to Acute Medicine do not result in the patient needing an immediate admission
  • 65% of photo messages sessions to Dermatology result in the patient avoiding a trip to hospital
  • 28% of photos attached to e-RS 2WW referral result in the patient avoiding a trip to hospital

Our COVID responses

Our solutions have been adopted and applied to the continued challenges we face. Some of our approaches have been rolled out in as little as 72 hours, meaning they can still make an impact this winter.

Some of the ways we have supported the NHS in their response to COVID:

We launched Telemedicine Devices

Our world-class telemedicine devices are revolutionising care by enabling NHS specialist consultants to see, hear and speak with patients as if they were at their bedside – even if they are miles away at a different hospital. The devices are easily replicable across a number of settings, whether it is instant access to specialist advice to help resuscitate a baby, or for routine ward rounds, the timely delivery of safe care is a key factor. As well as providing remote support and reassurance to colleagues the devices help make job planning far more efficient with the reduction in cross-site travel, enabling self-isolating or shielding consultants to participate and a reduction in locum costs. Find out how it works.

We launched Email Advice & Guidance

Many email advice services have been operating successfully for more than a decade, with local hospital teams responding to GPs. But there is now a danger that these long-standing arrangements could be threatened by a requirement to track all advice activity. As well as understanding what kind of service GPs are receiving and the impact on patients, tracking allows areas to measure themselves against targets, including NHSE’s target that there should be 12 advice requests per 100 first outpatient appointments. We now offer fully-tracked Email Advice & Guidance.  Find out how it works.
